Aphrodite was the greek goddess of love and beauty. Known in Roman mythology as Venus, Aphrodite has appeared in many stories and myths. She has been the symbol of woman beauty for many centuries not only in Greece but in the whole world, as well.
How Aphorodite was born
The very first thing you should know about Aphrodite is the way she was born. There are many stories surrounding this issue in the Greek mythology, some of which are more prominent than others. One such story says that Aphrodite was born as the daughter of Zeus, who is widely known as the ruler of all Olympians. However, the most common story believes that Aphrodite was created after Cronus cut Uranus with a knife at the Cyprus island. A piece of the body of Uranus fell to the sea and there Aphrodite grew from the sea foam.
Zeus was afraid that Aphrodite would provoke lust and jealousy among gods. So, she made her marry his son Hephaestus, the God of fire and blacksmith. Myths say that Hephaestus was a very ugly God and that Aphrodite was very unhappy in her marriage. She often cheated on him with other Gods. One of Aphrodite’s most commonly known children was Cupid. His father was Aries, the Greek god of war. While Aphrodite was the goddess of love, Cupid was the god of love and lust.

The goddess of beauty had her own festival, known as the Aphrodisia, which was celebrated in Greece, but particularly in Athens and Corinth. Aphrodite is referred to in other civilizations apart from the Greek mythology. In Roman history she is known as Venus, while in Babylonia and Sumer she is called Ishtar.
Aphrodite was by far the most beautiful goddess in Olympia. She was known as the goddess of love, beauty, fertility and erotic appeal. Although she had many personal affairs, she was said to be very generous and help both gods and mortals fall in love with the right person. She is one of the most well-known greek goddesses around the world and many people believe the existence of their babies to be a present of their lovely goddess.
